The New Blog - Again

After two years on the old, new blog I am moving again. I started out on a plain old website where I used to add a page for each day, because no one had ever heard of a blog then.  I did have the idea in the back of my mind that I should write some code to keep this stuff in a database and build it dynamically each time.  Sure wish I had, I would be retired and living on a beach somewhere if I had. Sadly though, I never did get around to it until after it had been done by many others.  The next encarnation was to download some blogging software that I could edit at will and customize.  That was a fun project, but it was written by some college kid that knew next to nothing and I ended up re-writing most of it.  But you see, laziness has set in.  The editor that the kid used is clunky and doesn't have a lot of features.  I wanted to add more features and I didn't have the time.  And then I thought - you know what?  Somebody has already done all of that work and I can have it for free.  It's called Blogger and why on Earth would I spend countless hours writing code when I can just set up an account and go.

So while it doesn't look much different than it did before (I liked my design, thank you) our family blog has a new home and you'll need to update your bookmarks to this shiny new page.  And while I have been playing with this, it has been many weeks since I have updated the blog and now I need to catch up.  It's going to take me several nights to do so and I'll just get started with a little bit to test drive this new thing.

The Room Project Begins
I have covered the results of Owen's new room project in detail on the hydrocephalus blog and by now everyone has seen the artwork and Owen walking around in it.  I'm not going to try to duplicate all of that here.  Instead I'll focus on what the kids were doing while all the work was going on.  During the previous few days I had done some of the prep work like painting the railings, but today was the first day of work in Owen's room.  I mounted the railing and then put the first toy on the wall.  It didn't take long for Owen to find it.

Sammy helped me to mount a few pieces of Owen's old bed on the walls. When we were done she sat and listened to Owen's PeaPod MP3 player.

This is an overview of how the room looked at the end of the day.  While I worked Owen took all of his toys and spread them across the room to make this lovely mess that you see here:

And finally this is a random picture taken of Owen that day:

Today Sammy and I painted the decorations on the table and put it together in Owen's room.

Exploration
The room isn't done yet, but already it has inspired Owen to explore his world in a more upright fashion:

The Room is Done
The room was finally finished and it was time to play!

Many of those pictures have already been posted on the hydro site, although quite a few were new, but hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to post more and those will all be never before seen items.
